Get Ready
It has been said that running a marathon is 70% psychological and 30% physical. While we would not disagree with that, we do believe that it’s necessary to take your training seriously. This page is meant to provide runners and participants with the encouragement and advice to best prepare for your event.
Firstly, we strongly suggest that you buy yourself a training log and record your daily and weekly activities. It is a fun thing to do, and you’ll be surprised at how quickly you’ll make progress.
Secondly, we strongly advise that you follow a set plan. The Team Continuum 16 Week Periodization Plan, published here, is an excellent regimen to follow. Remember, it’s not always about mileage, it’s a lot to do with technique, a lot to do with strength, a lot to do with diet and nutrition, but mostly it’s about you and your resolve.
Thirdly, we have gathered together some articles and advice written by highly respected and highly trained personal fitness instructors. You’ll find articles on periodization, stretching, nutrition, and running injuries – how to avoid and how to diagnose.
Of the 37,000 starters in the 2006 ING New York Marathon, 36,900 finished it. Be encouraged, be sensible, and by all means be prepared. Train sensibly--physically and psychologically--and listen to the voice of experience. If you are a first-timer, ask questions, e-mail us and if we can help we will. We want you all to have a wonderful time and remember your marathon with Team Continuum for the rest of your life.
